“Faithful Forever”(The Spirit of a Highlander)
This artwork was created to commemorate 125 years of service to Canada
by Toronto’s Highland Regiment - the 48TH Highlanders of Canada.
The central figure is a Sergeant in 1891 - dressed in Musketry Order.
He wears the scarlet tunic, feather bonnet and Davidson kilt that have been
hallmarks of the Regiment on the streets of Toronto since it was founded as
48TH Battalion “Highlanders by General Order 19 of 16 October 1891.
Behind him symbolically advancing forward across a ridge are the images Highlanders
advancing to combat in the conflicts and operations where Highlanders have served
from South Africa to Afghanistan. In the background are found images of Highlanders
in various orders of dress worn in training and on peacekeeping and
NATO operations from the 1893 white shell to the green service dress worn today.
