“Welcome Home” Anniversary of ARMISTICE DAY • 1918 • 11th November 11th Hour

Armistice Day, commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11am on 11 November 1918, marking the end of the First World War.

Along with the end of WWII, Armistice Day of 1918 must be the most celebratory event in Canadian history (as well as the world). I created this allegorical representation of a Canadian Soldier returning from war and met at the train station by the love of his life. The clock just struck the 11th hour and the train caboose is symbolically numbered 11. The backdrop is filled with cheering crowds welcoming the arrival of peace.

November 11th has since been recognized as a day of Remembrance. It is the day to remember our Fallen…those who have died in the line of duty.
